JEAN PASCAL VS. OMAR PITTMAN

I was only moderately impressed in my first viewing of Pascal in his victory over Kingsley Ikeke. I saw some Internet message boarders compare Pascal to Roy Jones.

Um...no...

But he is fast.

Omar "Pitbull" Pittman is someone I have never seen fight nor even heard of. He is announced as being from North Philly which could only help. Looking at his record he appears to be a novice. He has lost previously to mixed martial artist/pro boxer Chris "Lights Out" Lytle by decision. It doesn't appear that he has progressed past the eight round prelims.

It was a rather boring fight until the seventh round. Pittman started the first round fast but after about a minute and a half it was apparent Pascal was simply in another league speed wise. Pittman was a basic boxer and appeared to be well-schooled. The atheticism of Pascal was too much. I gave Pascal the first six rounds easy.

In the seventh, however, Pittman timed Pascal with a left hook which buckled the Haitian born Canadian. Pascal was holding on for dear life. At the end of the eighth, Pittman appeared to hurt Pascal again with a big right.

Pascal regrouped and was able to finish strong. I scored it 98-91 for Pascal which was in line with the judges.

I am hard pressed to pick him against Miranda, however. Allan Green was in the ESPN studio chatting it up with Brian Kenny. He stated that Pascal was "a joke." I don't think he is a "joke" but he isn't ready for prime time. Green or Edison Miranda would have blown Pittman out of the water. Judging from this bout, Pascal is at a level below the aforementioned fighters.

Next up on the fight card was
Edison Miranda against David Banks.
